Laurel is a southwestern Virginia native. She was born and raised in Glade Spring, Virginia. She left SWVA to attend college at the University of Virginia where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction. During her time at UVA, Laurel majored in psychology and sociology with a minor in leadership studies, and she was a member of the Raven Society and the Psychological Honor Society. After graduation, Laurel worked as juvenile probation and intake officer with the 16th District Court Services Unit in Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and Louisa County prior to attending law school.
Laurel graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from the University of Richmond School of Law. During her time at UofR, Laurel served as the Manuscripts Editor for the Richmond Law Review and earned a CALI award, receiving the highest grade in Family Law Procedure. Upon graduation, Laurel clerked in the Circuit Court for the City of Richmond for one year before joining a local family law firm.
Laurel joined Winslow, McCurry and MacCormac, PLLC in 2024 as an associate attorney with the firm’s family law team. Laurel’s practice focuses on the areas of divorce, custody and visitation, spousal support, child support, and prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
In 2023, Laurel was recognized as an Up-and-Coming Lawyer by Virginia Lawyers Weekly. She has had the opportunity to give presentations for continuing legal education courses on the areas of the intersection between criminal and family law and assisted other attorneys at her prior firm with the bi-annual case law update on Virginia family law. She has published two articles: Mobile Methadone Clinics: A Necessary Step in Fighting the Opioid Epidemic, 55 U. Rich. L. Rev. Online (2020) and Yourko: The Fight for Military Retirement Continues, Virginia Family Law Quarterly (Summer 2023), which she co-authored with Craig W. Sampson.
She is an active member of local bar associations. She serves on the board of the Metro-Richmond Women’s Bar Association and the Chesterfield Bar Association. She is also on the board for the Family Law Section of the Richmond Bar Association.
Laurel enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs, horseback riding, and reading.
